Covid-19 rules from 1 July

The basic principle behind the easing of restrictions is that a number of special safety measures have to be put in place. Safety plans are underpinned by the definition of individuals who pose a low epidemiological risk. In Austria, the ‘3G rule’ – tested, recovered, vaccinated – is paramount.

From 1 July, persons aged 12 or over must be able to demonstrate that they have one of these three statuses in order to gain entry to certain spaces.

Austrian 3G rule

The 3G rule applies in the following areas from 1 July:

• Hospitality
• Hotels and accommodation
• Leisure facilities (e.g. dance schools and zoos)
• Culture venues (except museums, libraries and archives)
• Sporting venues
• Events (with 100 or more participants)
• Trade and consumer shows, congresses

Testing

Testing is required for persons aged 12 or over

Collection of contact tracing data

Contact details of visitors will be taken in hospitality and accommodation establishments, non-public sports and leisure facilities and at events with 100 or more participants up to and including 22 July.

Face masks and FFP2 masks

Mask wearing is mandatory in enclosed spaces in all public buildings, on public transport, in customer areas of businesses (e.g. retail stores and other service providers), as well as in museums.

Gatherings

The following rules are in place for gatherings from 1 July:

• Gatherings of 100 or more people must be registered in advance
•  Gatherings of 500 or more people require prior authorisation
•  There are no longer any upper limits on participants or restrictions on capacity.

In the case of events attracting 100 or more people, participants must demonstrate compliance with the 3G rule (tested, recovered, vaccinated). Their status must be checked by the responsible party, who is also tasked with drawing up and implementing a Covid-19 prevention plan as well as appointing a Covid-19 officer.
