How do people get around cities using public transport? That’s the question international media outlet Time Out posed to 18,500 people around the world to compile its ranking of the “Best Public Transport Networks in the World.” The result: Vienna ranks second in Europe.
Vienna is out in front: “Affordable, fast, clean, and efficient” – that’s how the city’s public transport system is perceived. With five subway lines, numerous trams, buses, and bike-sharing services, Vienna is known as the city of short distances. This comprehensive network earns Vienna the second spot in the European city ranking, just behind London.

What’s next for Vienna? The city has launched a major cycling initiative. New bike paths totaling around 24 kilometers and greening projects are making Vienna even more climate-friendly. Starting in 2026, the new U5 will be Vienna’s first fully automated subway line.
The Austria Center Vienna is directly connected to the subway system via the “Kaisermühlen-VIC” station. It takes just 7 minutes to get here from the city center at the popular Stephansplatz. This means event attendees and congress guests can reach our convention centre in no time.
